CYCLING BOSS WANTS TO FAST TRACK ‘TOUR DE NILE'

Uganda Cycling Association (UCA) want to fast track the inauguration of ‘Tour de Nile’, a race that would cover the countries snaked by River Nile, the world’s longest river whose source is in Uganda.

Mr Sam Muwonge, the UCA chairman, has told the association’s general assembly that he already held a meeting with President Yoweri Museveni in April, 2018 to gain his support for the event that would go a long way in promoting Uganda.

UAF HOPES TO USE 2019 AS OLYMPIC SPRINGBOARD WITH 2.8BN BILL

With the Tokyo2020 Olympics fast-approaching, Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) has passed a Shs2.8bn budget for 2019 to enable the country prepare sufficiently for the challenges of the Far East.

During the body’s general assembly, the UAF executive led by president Dominic Otuchet informed delegates of the events for 2019, whose proper execution with aid Uganda’s medal bids at the quadrennial Games in Japan.

“We have the All Africa Games and the World Athletics Championships this year which are very important in the lead up to the Olympics,” Otuchet told the assembly.

THREE NEW NATIONAL SPORTS ASSOCIATIONS RATIFIED BY COUNCIL

The National Council of Sports (NCS) has handed out certificates to three sports associations, bringing the total number of affiliated federations to 48.

Mr David Katende, the NCS assistant general secretary (technical), handed out the certificates to leaders of American Football, Climbing Sport and Kabaddi.

He implored them to work towards spread the three disciplines to places far and wide across Uganda.

Dr Ogwel commends Commonwealth Half Marathon team, promises more support

National Council of Sports (NCS) is committed to get more athletes on to the presidential monthly stipend and ensure sufficient preparation for the 2010 Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.

This assertion was made by NCS acting general secretary Dr Patrick Bernard Ogwel as he welcomed back the Commonwealth Half Marathon team that returned from in Cardiff, Wales having dominated the inaugural edition.

WOKORACH PROMISES 'FIGHT' IN AFRICA CUP SEVENS' DEFENCE

Rugby Cranes are relishing the challenge that awaits them as they seek to win the Africa Rugby 7s title for a third successive title in Tunisia this weekend.

The team, led by skipper Michael Wokorach was flagged off by National Council of Sports (NCS) board member Hajj Zubair Galiwango at Monday.

The 12-man team leaves the country on Tuesday night at 11pm and will be favourites to win the continental crown.

“Of course it now gets harder to win a title. The first time is easy but now it’s not,” Wokorach told the media.
