At the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games, Tokyo, Uganda was represented by 4 athletes in Para sports disciplines of Athletics, Badminton and Swimming. Uganda finished in 78th overall position with 1 Bronze Medal won by David Emong in the Men’s T46 1500m Event in a Personal Best time of 3:53.51 at the Olympic Stadium, Tokyo to enrich is sports profile that also has a Silver medal from the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games and Gold at the 2017 World Para-Athletics Championships.

On 09th July 2021, the President of Uganda, His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the First Lady/Minister of Education and Sports Hon. Janet Museveni, flagged off a delegation of 25 athletes to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics from 23rd July to 08th August 2021. This being the biggest contingent Uganda has ever presented with a bigger female representation of 13 females than 12 males to the quadrennial Games.

Uganda’s first batch to the 2020 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo Japan have set off for a Pre-games Training Camp in the city of Izumisano, Japan.

The delegation comprising of athletes from Boxing, Swimming and Weightlifting have today been flagged off by the Hon. Hamson Denis Obua, Minister of State for Education and Sports (Sports) at National Council of Sports offices in Lugogo. The delegation headed by Mr. David Katende, Assistant General Secretary/ Technical departs tomorrow 18th June 2021 and will arrive in Izumisano on 19th June 2021.

Heads of National Sports Associations/Federations have today convened at NCS Lugogo and Online (via Zoom) for the 6th National Sports Forum. The Forum chaired by the Minister of state for Sports, Honorable Denis Hamson Obua is stipulated in Article 17 of the National Council of Sports Statutory Instrument No.38 to convene the participatory meeting at least once every three months with National Sports Associations/Federations.

National Council of Sports (NCS) has today set out for the Monitoring and Evaluation Exercise of National Sports Associations/Federations from the 15th to 22nd March 2021. The exercise is an annual activity aimed at informing government/NCS on the status of the 51 National Sports Associations in Uganda as a requirement of the NCS Statutory Instruments 2014, No.38.

A history repeat is what the Uganda Under20 Football Team, the Uganda Hippos showcased in Mauritania at the Under 20 Africa Cup of Nations finals in Mauritania with a runners up finish. The Uganda Hippos lost 0-2 to Ghana, a similar fate the Uganda Senior Team, the Cranes registered in 1978 at the African Cup of Nations in Accra where Uganda similarly lost 0-2 at the finals.

The Uganda Under20 Men’s Football Team are on the way to making history, debuting at the Africa Cup of Nations Under20 2021 edition and progressing to the finals scheduled for Saturday, 06th March 2021 in Mauritania.

Uganda’s side coached by Morley Bwekyaso yesterday triumphed 4-1 over Tunisia at the semi-finals at the Stade Olympique Nouakchott in Mauritania. Richard Basangwa scored Uganda’s first goal before striker Derrick Kakooza scored 3 goals to emerge Man of the Match and leading goal scorer at the AFCON U20 Tournament with a total of 5 goals.

National Council of Sports (NCS) has acquired a 60KVA Generator to supply power within the Lugogo Sports Complex and accordingly address power interruptions that affect sports events/activities especially in the Indoor Stadium and work processes at the NCS Secretariat.

The NCS Chairman, Dr. Donald Rukare today commissioned the Generator at Lugogo and remarked that the Generator will help to ensure the running of facilities at Lugogo is seamless given the black-outs that disrupt sports activities.

The National Men’s Basketball Team, the Silverbacks are off to Monastir, Tunisia for the second window of the FIBA Afrobasket 2021 Qualifiers from the 18th to 21st February 2021. The Team flies out tonight to Monastir and will undergo a 10 days pre camp before the actual event that will see the top three teams qualify for the FIBA Afrobasket in July 2021 in Kigali, Rwanda.
