The Uganda National senior men’s cricket team, the Cricket team will debut at the ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup scheduled from the 01st to 29th June 2024 in the USA and West Indies.

The Uganda Cricket Association announced a squad of 15 players and two traveling reserves, led by captain Brian Masaba for the historical bow. The team was flagged off by the Minister of state for Sports, Hon. Peter Ogwang on 21st May 2024 at Lugogo.

Today, National Council of Sports, Ministry of Education and Sports, Uganda Olympic Committee and the Embassy of France in Uganda have joined the rest of the world to a countdown to the 100 days to the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games at a media launch purposed to shine a spotlight to the biggest sporting event scheduled to take place in the city of Paris from the 26th July to 11th August 2024.

Team Uganda with a medal haul of 20 medals at the 13th African Games in Accra Ghana is the 2nd best performance for Uganda since 1979. Uganda was represented in 18 disciplines and with electric performances successfully completed the continental games in 13th position overall.

Uganda have made history by qualifying for their maiden ICC T20 Men’s World Cup 2024 in USA and West Indies.

Uganda secured their spot by beating Rwanda by 9 wickets in the last game of the Africa qualifiers; with a stellar record of 5 out of 6 victories at the Africa Qualifiers, the historic achievement marks Uganda’s continuous rise in Cricket.

The National Council of Sports (NCS) regrets to announce that we have today withdrawn the Certificate of Recognition previously issued to the Uganda Netball Federation (UNF), and that the federation will no longer conduct any business related to the sport of netball on behalf of the Government of Uganda.

The decision arises out of the persistent governance and leadership challenges that have engulfed the UNF, and due to the failure by the UNF to follow the laws of Uganda and their own statutes.

The 2027 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) will be hosted jointly in Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania following the successful bidding process by the three East African countries under the “the East Africa Pamoja Bid”.

The Pamoja bid is a strategic fit, in line with African Union Agenda 2063, and East Africa Community Vision 2050 which aims to achieve sustainable development for all.

The NCS National District Outreach Programme has successfully been concluded in Central, Western and West Nile Regions of Uganda. The National Programme is meant to collectively review the status quo of sports in the districts and jointly help in laying new strategies / chart a new way forward for grassroots sports development as well as to revive the district sports councils. Earlier, the Eastern and Northern regions of Uganda were visited.

40 Sports Physiotherapists have acquired hands-on skills in Physiotherapy in the females only 1 week Sports Physiotherapy Training at Mestil Hotel, Kampala by Sports Expert, Lutz Meissner from Germany.

NCS has embarked on Capacity Building of Technical Officials in sports as one of the key aspects to technically support the development of athletes. It is strategic that the first beneficiaries of this program are the female physiotherapists knowing how vulnerable female athletes are.

National Council of Sports embarked on the Tour of the Eastern and Northern regions of Uganda as part of the revitalization of District sports Councils. The Five day outreach had members of the National Council of Sports Council/Board headed by Mr. Ambrose Tashobya and staff led by Dr. Patrick Ogwel visit 7 sub-regions to inspect the state of sports stadiums/grounds in the region and convene meetings with District Leaders including RDCs, CAOs, LCV, DSO, DEOS and District Sports Officers of 60 Districts from the 27th to 31st March 2023.
