SUSPENSION OF ALL SPORTS ACTIVITIES DUE TO THE THREAT OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

In light of the viral spread of the novel COVID-19/ Coronovirus pandemic affecting countries around the globe and confirmation of a case in Uganda, the government of Uganda has suspended all public events, sports inclusive for a period of 32 days in order to contain and manage the spread of the life threatening pandemic starting 18th March 2020.

The President of Uganda H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni during the Presidential Address noted ‘The next frontline of fighting the virus is to stop the merry-making, the discos, the dances, bars, sports, music shows, cinemas and concerts. These are very dangerous gathering points with the virus around. All these are suspended for a month.’

Accordingly, the pronouncements bring to a cessation all sports activities/programmes and events on the National Sports Calendar for period stated. Equally, access to all sports facilities within the Lugogo Sports Complex will remain restricted in compliance with the presidential directive.

WHAT IS CORONAVIRUS OR COVID-19?
Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus.

Most people infected with the COVID-19 virus will experience mild to moderate respiratory illness. The COVID-19 virus spreads primarily through droplets of saliva or discharge from the nose when an infected person coughs or sneezes, so it’s important that you also practice respiratory etiquette (for example, by coughing into a flexed elbow).

SYMPTOMS OF THE COVID-19
World Health Organization has noted that the COVID-19 Virus affects different people in different ways.
The Common symptoms include:
• Fever
• Tiredness
• Dry Cough
Other symptoms include:
• Shortness of breath
• Aches and pains
• Sore throat
• And very few people will report diarrhea, nausea or a runny nose
BASIC PROTECTIVE MEASURES AGAINST COVID-19
• Avoid Hand Shaking and Hugging at all times
• Maintain Social Distancing
• Regularly and thoroughly clean your hands
• Practice Respiratory Hygiene
• Avoid touching the eyes, nose and mouth
• Seek early medical care if symptoms of fever, cough and difficulty breathing are noticed
• Stay informed and follow advice given by the Ministry of Health-Uganda and the World Health Organization concerning COVID-19
