FOOTBALL
It has taken a period of 10 years for a Ugandan Club to win the CECAFA Kagame Cup, and it took KCCA FC last week to its second trophy, which the club last won in 1978. KCCA FC defeated Tanzania’s Azam Football Club, also the defending champions 1-0 to emerge the 2019 champions in Kigali, Rwanda. Since inception of the tournament in 1967, Uganda has won 6 titles in total, with previous Ugandan Clubs champions being Villa SC (1987, 2003 and 2005) and Police FC (2006).

Uganda finished in 15th position out of the 24 nations that took part in the 32nd edition of the 2019 Total Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt. And now the team has started its qualification campaign for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon. The Uganda Cranes fixtures are as below:

On a similar note, the Uganda Cranes arrived in Djibouti for the CHAN 2020 Qualifiers against Somalia on 27th July 2019.

During the CAF Ordinary General Assembly in Cairo, Egypt, FUFA President, Eng. Moses Magogo was elected CAF Executive Committee Member representing Central and East Africa. National Council of Sports congratulates Eng. Magogo and wishes him excellence in the new office.

RUGBY
Four teams; Uganda, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Kenya shall battle for the top crown of the Victoria Cup Rugby Tournament. Uganda Fixtures are as below:
27th July 2019: Uganda vs Zimbabwe at 4:30pm at Legends Rugby Grounds
10th August 2019: Uganda vs Zambia at 4:30pm at Kyadondo Rugby Grounds

NETBALL
The First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Museveni welcomed back the National Netball Team, the She Cranes from Liverpool, England where Uganda finished in 7th position, one place improvement from the previous edition in Sydney. The First Lady who was flanked by Hon. Charles Bakkabulindi, Minister of Sports, rewarded each player Ugx.1 Million and commended the team for the outstanding performance and for the consistent improvement at the games.

BASKETBALL
The Junior Girls Basketball Team, the Junior Gazelles have set off to Kigali, Rwanda for the 2019 FIBA Under 16 Women’s Africa Championships scheduled for 28th July to 03rd August 2019 at the Amahoro National Indoor Stadium. Mali, Egypt, Angola, South Africa, Tanzania, Mozambique, Uganda and Rwanda shall battle for the two top slots to qualify for the FIBA Under 17 Women’s World Cup 2020.
The Uganda team is comprised of Ester Kwagala, Mary Najjuma, Shillah Aber Lamunu, Patience Nantume, Sharifah Nalwadda, Lydia Babirye, Sylivia Namuddu, Joyce Nyapendi, Regina Ajuma, Penitah Nabakooza, Michelle Aber Linda and Mary Moses Amanyo.

VOLLEYBALL
Lugogo MTN Arena and Hockey Stadium will host the 23rd NSSF KAVC International Volleyball Tournament from 02nd to 04th August 2019. Over 30 teams from South Sudan, Congo, Rwanda, Burundi and Uganda are expected to take part in this year’s edition.

BOXING
The National Novice Boxing Championships are back from 01st to 08th August 2018 with over 600 athletes set to participate for the top slots.

ATHLETICS
The National Athletics Championships are underway today, Friday 26th July 2019 at Mandela National Stadium in preparation for the 2019 African Games, Morocco and 17th World Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar.
