WEEK REVIEW: MTN KAMPALA MARATHON AND OTHER SPORTS EVENTS HAPPENING OVER THE WEEKEND
MTN KAMPALA MARATHON
The biggest social sports event in Uganda, the MTN Kampala Marathon is happening this Sunday, 24th November 2019 at Kololo Airstrip. This year’s edition has registered the biggest entry compared to the previous years, according to the MTN CEO and the proceeds from this year’s edition will go towards improvement of maternal health. The biggest local and international athletes have registered to compete in the 5km, 10km, 21km and 42km and wheelchair categories.
In the 2018 edition, Ugandan Joshua Chemutai won the 42km race in 2:18.27 as Kibet Soyekwo and Philip Kiplimo finished in second and third position respectively.
FOOTBALL
Uganda currently tops group B with 4 points ahead of Burkina Faso, Malawi and South Sudan in the table standings of the AFCON2021 Qualifiers. The result was reached upon after an exceptional 2-0 win of Uganda against Malawi last Sunday at Namboole Stadium. Earlier on, Uganda drew 0-0 against Burkina Faso in Ouagadougou. Next matches will take place in August 2019.
Fauzia Najjemba scored Uganda’s Crested Cranes’s goal against Ethiopia in the CECAFA Senior Women Challenge Cup Group B match. Uganda however later lost 3-0 to Kenya to progress to the semi finals where Uganda shall play against Tanzania and Kenya will face off with Burundi to determine the teams that shall progress to the Finals, tomorrow in Dar es salaam, Tanzania. Meanwhile, Uganda has been confirmed to host the The CECAFA Under17 Tournament and CECAFA Senior Men's Challenge Cup from the 07th to 19th December 2019.

Stephen Kissa last week clocked 41:49 to win the 15Km NN Zevebheuvenloop (Seven Hills Race) in Nijmegen, Netherlands. Stephen stepped in the shoes of Joshua Cheptegei who won last year’s edition in a record time of 41:05.

The final round of the Mountain Dew National Motocross Championships is happening this weekend on Sunday 24th November 2019 starting at 9:00am at Garuga.
RUGBY
Tomorrow, 23rd November 2019, the Uganda Cup Women’s final is on between Entebbe Lady Swans RFC and Thunderbirds RFC at Kisubi University Grounds at 04:00pm. Prior to this, Kisubi Pacers shall play Amazon Jaguars at 02:00pm.
