NCS Powers Rwenzori Marathon With 3.7bn

Thousands of runners have been delighted to learn that this year's edition of the Tusker Lite Rwenzori Marathon has received a big shot in the arm, with government committing a whopping Shs 3.7bn to the elite event.
The State Minister of Education and Sports in charge of Sports, Honourable Peter Ogwang, accompanied by National Council of Sports (NCS) Board Chairman Ambrose Tashobya and General Secretary Dr Bernard Patrick Ogwel, made the announcement yesterday at Fairway Hotel, with the Uganda Tourism Board's Ron Kawamara also in tow.

With the Rwenzori Mountains looming large in the background, the marathon is a tourism dream come true that starts at the Equator in Queen Elizabeth National Park and finishes in Kasese town. For this, Hon. Ogwang was full of praise for tourism guru Amos Wekesa. On August 22nd, eight thousand (8,000) runners from 30 countries will trek the scenic route of a run that was awarded World Athletics Label Road Race status last year. With the last Ebola patient in Uganda having now been dischsrged, the Ministry of Health has given organisers the nod to stage the event, with strict Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in place.
