WEEK REVIEW: UGANDA TEAMS EMBARK ON 12TH AFRICAN GAMES, FEASSSA GAMES, CECAFA U15, VICTORIA CUP AND MORE

12TH AFRICAN GAMES
54 African nations will converge in Rabat, Morocco from the 19th to 31st August 2019 for the 12th African Games. The Moroccan Games Organizing Committee has promised the best ever organised games and pledged to bring the experience of the games closer to everyone. Uganda's first delegation was yesterday, 15th August 2019 flagged off by the Hon. Charles Bakkabulindi, Minister of Sports and left aboard Emirates Airlines. Uganda is set to participate in Athletics, Boxing, Badminton, Handball, Tennis, Table Tennis, 3x3 Basketball, Chess, Weightlifting, Swimming and Cycling.

This year's edition is promising a thrilling experience with Uganda fielding a women's boxing team, a chess team and introduction of the 3x3 tournament at the games that will also act as qualifiers for 19 sports disciplines for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Government of Uganda through National Council of Sports has extensively covered the team's participation at the continental games. NCS's Assistant General Secretary David Katende is the General Team Manager while UOC's Sheila Agonzibwa is the Chef de Mission.

In the previous 2015 edition held in Congo Brazzaville, Uganda's 53 delegation put up a spirited performance to claim 1Gold, 1 Silver and 2 Bronze medals.

FEASSSA GAMES
Team Uganda comprising of over 800 secondary schools athletes arrived yesterday in Mwanza, Tanzania for the 2019 East Africa Secondary Schools Games (FEASSSA Games) slated for 15th to 24th August 2019. During the flag off of the team, H.E the President of Uganda cautioned the young athletes against drug use, early sex and indiscipline.

The FEASSSA Games bring together Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania and South Sudan to compete in sports disciplines of Football, Volleyball, Netball, Handball, Athletics, Woodball, Rugby, Basketball, Badminton, Swimming, Table Tennis and Hockey.

In the previous 2018 edition hosted in Rwanda, Uganda finished in second position as Kenya emerged overall champions.

FOOTBALL
The Under 15 National Football Team yesterday, 15th August 2019 set off to Asmara, Eritrea for the Inaugural CECAFA Under-15 Championships that gets underway today 16th August 2019. Uganda is pooled in Group B alongside Ethiopia, South Sudan and Rwanda. Uganda fixtures are as below;
17th August 2019: Uganda vs Ethiopia
20th August 2019: Uganda vs South Sudan
24th August 2019: Uganda vs Rwanda

Uganda Team is composed of: Shafiq Waswanga, Leonard Kasanya, Abbas Kyeyune, Travis Mutyaba, Caros Kaddu, Samuel Mutebi, Peter Gava, Vincent Mulema, Najib Kigozi, Godfrey Ssekibengo, Patrick Muliika, Patrick Ouke, Devis Ogwala, Abdu Nsereko, Shugai Kalisa, Shariq Magogo, Hafidhu Ssonko Ssembatya, Daniel Mukisa, Elisa Taremwa and Rickson Pater Gubya.

Proline FC won 3-0 against Malawi’s Master Security in the CAF Confederation Cup in the 1st leg match. The return leg is set for 23rd August 2019.

KCCA FC lost 2-3 to Namibia’s African Stars in Windhoek, Namibia in the 1st leg of the CAF Champions League. The second leg is set for 23rd August 2019 at the Startimes Stadium, Lugogo.

KCCA FC today, Friday 16th August 2019 faces Onduparaka FC in the semi finals of the Pilsner Super 8 Tournament at Startimes Stadium, Lugogo at 16:00hrs, while Proline FC will have its last game against Tooro United FC on Sunday 18th August 2019 at 16:00hrs, still at the Startimes Stadium.

RUGBY
The Uganda Lady Cranes have so far lost two of their Africa Qualifiers games against hosts South Africa (89:05) and also lost 05-37 against Kenya. The Lady Cranes World Cup dream is deeming as they are set to play their last game against Madagascar on 17th August 2019. The Top team qualifies for the 2021 Rugby Women’s World Cup, New Zealand while the second team heads to the repechage.

Uganda beat Kenya 16-13 in the 1st leg but lost 5-16 in the return leg of the Victoria Cup before losing to Zimbabwe. Now, Uganda is set to play against Zambia on Saturday, 17th August 2019 at Kyadondo Rugby Grounds.

CHARITY RUNS
The 2019 Rotary Cancer Run is set for 25th August 2019 at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds and also in major towns across the country starting at 06:00hrs. Tickets go for Ugx.25,000. Meanwhile the 4th Café Javas Kyambogo Run was this week launched with the Corporate Social Responsibility objective of promoting maternal health. The run is set for 01st September 2019 and tickets go for Ugx.20,000.N
